Jacy had the wonderful opportunity to be mentored by Laura Meyer in graphics on Turning Red in 2021. She learned the full graphics life cycle and technical pipeline, beginning with background graphics texture projects, giving shots life with the bits of graphic detail in the background. She progressed to more featured pieces, including board games, banners, billboards and T-shirts. She had the pleasure of working with the good folks from shading in Sets and Characters to get graphics up and running in shots. She learned how to find graphics plates, deliver to them and check shots the next day to confirm their placement.
Laura gave her a full introduction to the graphics philosophy on Red, providing parameters to design within. This include a more muted palette, chunkier forms and more generic branding for easy reads on background products. For each assignment, Jacy provided several directions for feedback to present to Laura. She also had the opportunity to have her work reviewed by Rona for feedback, as well as Domee in a Sets Shading Review. It was a great opportunity to learn how to take notes and turn them into a desired, cohesive product on screen.
