First Church Berkeley had another project for Jacy. One of their buildings had burned down in a fire a few years ago and was currently protected by a chainlink fence that was constantly being graffitti’d. It was not a welcoming site for passerby. They asked Jacy to design some banners to cover the fences with that would be graffiti-resistant, and happier to look at!
The congregation had a concept in mind for these banners. They wanted them to be inclusive, and they wanted to welcome people into their house of worship. Together, Jacy and the church chose sunny colors to pair with a revitalized version of their logo and a catchy tagline. These banners are on display outside of their old burned down building in Berkeley, California.
Jacy started the design by revisiting the churches logo, a mandala made of people linked together. She gave it a refresh to lighten up the signs.
After the mandala refresh, Jacy worked on designing the banners. The pastor had a vision of alternating banners, with one banner acting as an affirmation with the mandala, and one showing the many different faces of First Church Berkeley. Here's what the concept ended up looking like:
Jacy ended up designing 15 banners of varying lengths to cover the fence around the burnt down building. Here's what they ended up looking life in the wild:
